As the first point of contact to access Aging Resources within the Senior Community, the Phoenixville Area Senior Center has an Information and Assistance Counselor to help you remain active and independent for as long as possible. The following are some of the free services we offer:

Medicare Guidance

  • Our certified PA MEDI Counselors help navigate complicated Medicare Insurance Programs. Click here for more information about this program from Chester County.
  • Medicare’s Annual Open Enrollment Period is October 15th – December 7th.  If you would like assistance from a PA MEDI Counselor to review and make changes to your Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) or Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C), please contact Cari.

Tax Preparation

  • AARP tax preparers work from February until April at the Senior Center completing tax returns, free of charge! Scheduling for the 2024 tax season will begin earlier than previous years.  Phoenixville Senior Center VIP Supporters may call to schedule tax appointments starting on Monday, July 8th, 2024. All other Senior Center participants may call to schedule appointments starting on Monday, December 9rd, 2024. To schedule, please leave a clear message for us at 610-935-1515 ext 26 with your name, the name of anyone filing with you, your phone number, and the reason for your call. Your call will be returned to schedule in the order your message is received. Please be patient as call volume can be high.
    • Important Changes to the Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program – New Income Limits!  Starting in 2024, the new yearly income limit is be $45,000 for renters and homeowners; however, only half of your Social Security income counts. If you file your taxes with our AARP Tax-Aide team, you can apply for your Property Tax or Rent Rebate at the same time. If you think you qualify, please let us know when you call to schedule your tax appointment. This program benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older.

Food Resources

  • Educated on local, state and federal programs, we can assist you to apply for the SNAP Program, Senior Food Boxes, and other government programs for seniors.
  • Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides vouchers to be used at select Farmer’s Markets and Farm Stands.  For information on the 2023 program, click here.
  • The Senior Center participates in Henry’s Cupboard which provides food for the animals of Seniors. The Cats and Dogs get the nutrients they need to thrive, and the owners do not feel the need to share their human food.

  • We can assist you with the Rent Rebate and Property Tax Rebate applications.
  • LIHEAP can help with energy costs, and we can help you apply to those programs and many more.  

Driving and Transportation Services

  • Should you still be driving? We offer AARP Safe Driver courses annually. Click here for information.
  • Chesco Connect provides free or low cost rides for seniors in Chester County and is administered by the Chester County Department of Aging.  Click here for information.
  • We can help you apply for your Septa Key Card for train and bus passes.
  • For those living outside of Chester County, we can connect you with Community Connections of our neighboring areas.

End of Life

  • End of life planning is essential for your family.  Our counselor can connect you with legal counsel and other end of life resources.

Donated Items

  • Please do not drop off items without contacting staff. There is no place to leave donations at our site after hours. Please be aware that we may pass things along to another organization if we get too much or cannot use something. If in doubt, please call first. We will get back to you.
